Mixu crosses fingers for Fletcher

Sun 14 Dec, 01:00 PM

Hibernian boss Mixu Paatelainen is hoping Steven Fletcher's injury is not serious after he was carried off in the 2-0 victory over Hamilton.Fletcher was forced off with a damaged shin after 20 minutes and Paatelainen revealed he was struggling to walk unaided.

The injury took the shine off the three points secured as Derek Riordan, who replaced Fletcher, and man of the match Rob Jones found the net either side of the break.

Paatelainen said: "Fletcher is struggling to walk at the moment. It's not a broken bone, it was a knock on his shin.

"It's one of these tackles that defensive players make and they miss the ball.

"I am hoping he will be back as soon as possible. It's just a knock, albeit a sore one, and we will see how is over the next few days.

"If he is still sore in the coming days we might send him for a scan."

Following the high of beating Celtic last weekend, Paatelainen was delighted his side did not lose focus against bottom side Hamilton.

He added: "The most important thing is the three points. It was very important after a great result last week that we didn't become complacent.

"They made it very difficult for us, the packed the midfield with six players and it was difficult to find any room."

Hamilton manager Billy Reid was happy with the character his side exhibited, especially in the second period when they put Hibs under intense pressure in search of an equaliser.

Reid said: "It was quite a game and there were chances at both ends. I thought for long, long spells we were the better football team.

"I thought we were brilliant in the second half but we could not just get the break.

"I thought they could not get out of their own half at times during the second half.

"We went for two at the back but were undone by a set-piece and Rob Jones is always a danger.

"We are lying at the bottom of the table but this team won't lie down, we have got good football players at this club."
