Hamilton receives winner's trophy

Lewis Hamilton was awarded his trophy as Formula One's youngest champion at the International Automobile Federation gala awards dinner, and admitted he had fulfilled a childhood dream.

"This year has been a very special one in my life, the fulfilment of a dream I've had since childhood and an ambition that has taken my family and me on an amazing journey," said the 23-year-old Briton (pictured with his family).

"The fact that I won the drivers' world championship on the very last lap of the very last race is something that makes me so proud of our efforts in 2008," added the sport's first black champion.

"We pushed to the limit on every lap, from Melbourne to Brazil, and it's that determination and spirit that ultimately won us the world title."

Ferrari's Brazilian Felipe Massa, beaten by a single point after winning his home race last month, celebrated his team's constructors' crown and saw his own achievements in a positive light.

"We are already looking to a new season and I will do my utmost to come back here to Monaco next year to claim the prize which today has gone to Lewis," he said.

Singapore, host of Formula One's first night grand prix this year, was awarded the race promoters' trophy.

  3. touronroute...you ought to be careful what you say­ sometimes especially about Hamilton..I dare say he­ could prosecute you for some of the things you have­ said what he has supposed to have said or done. When­ people on here ask you for answers or proof of what you­ have stated..you never answer them...why is that..is it­ because you have none?

I have re-read your post and as far I can gather you­ still have not explained why Lewis owes the NHS so much­ when his mother, Stepmother, Father and Borther live in­ the UK, work in the UK and pay taxes in the UK. Lewis­ should not pay towards their upkeep, they are doing­ fine for themselves. I am now asking you AGAIN, Jenson­ Button´s father lives in the UK and David Coulthards­ parents live in the UK also, WHY ARE YOU NOT­ COMPLAINING OF THEIR OFFSPRING LIVING IN MONACO?­ WHY?

Youve a wonderful family, a brillient­ team and you are very talented. The trophy really looks­ ACE. I will be watching every race (as I have been­ doing since Schuey won his first).
