"This year has been a very special one in my life, the fulfilment of a dream I've had since childhood and an ambition that has taken my family and me on an amazing journey," said the 23-year-old Briton (pictured with his family).

"The fact that I won the drivers' world championship on the very last lap of the very last race is something that makes me so proud of our efforts in 2008," added the sport's first black champion.

"We pushed to the limit on every lap, from Melbourne to Brazil, and it's that determination and spirit that ultimately won us the world title."

Ferrari's Brazilian Felipe Massa, beaten by a single point after winning his home race last month, celebrated his team's constructors' crown and saw his own achievements in a positive light.

"We are already looking to a new season and I will do my utmost to come back here to Monaco next year to claim the prize which today has gone to Lewis," he said.

Singapore, host of Formula One's first night grand prix this year, was awarded the race promoters' trophy.

  4. Who are real cheats in F1 and have been for years and years? Some clues
    1) Their cars are red
    2) Their name is ferrari
Now even the brainless ferrari fans might work that one out.
Now the openly flamboyant Alonso will drive a red car and all the gay male Alonso supporters will become tifosi.

  5. Touronroute, congratulations you have won the "dumbest ferrari supporter of the year award" and that is saying something.

So you are saying that Pedro de la Rosa has been quoted as saying that Hamilton family are getting £10,000 in services each week. What services would this be and from who? Do you honestly believe that? That is half a million pounds a year, for what?

  9. iigor_k says "worlds highest paid sports star has benefitted from numerous FREE regular NHS blood tests + heart checks"

Who is the world's highest paid sports star and why are they getting regular NHS blood tests and why is it relevant here? I think it is still Tiger Woods so does he come over here for his blood tests? I find that a bit strange. Of course you could have meant highest paid UK sports star but that is still Beckham who is still earning almost twice what Lewis is getting. i think we need more information from you iigor_k.

  13. Touronroute shouted "VOODOOPENGUIN, WHERE WAS HE CONTRACTED OUT FOR, ANSWER PLEASE,I KNOW THE ANSWER."

I will freely admit that my information came fro a newspaper article, I think it might have been The Times, but that seemed to verify what the various other media reports had said which was that Lewis wanted to compete but had been told he couldn't due to contractual considerations. I do understand that the media can get it wrong so I await your version of the story but of course can only trust it if you give verifiable proof and not your usual vagueness.

  16. Touronroute - you said " i would call a great BRITIAN, a person who would take on the world at wembley, not making excuses and promoting wealth by filling in a few million forms."

Next, you appear to think that a 'great BRITIAN' is someone who would wilfully break a legal contract in order to satisfy your wishes. He was contracted to appear elsewhere, he wanted to do the ROC but was not allowed to due to legal reasons but did as much as he was able to do.

What do you care anyway, you actively seek out articles about him just to spew out your abuse. You certainly wouldn't have wanted him to be competing against Michael with the possibility of beating him would you?

  18. Touronroute - you said " i would call a great BRITIAN, a person who would take on the world at wembley, not making excuses and promoting wealth by filling in a few million forms."

If you wish to talk about this subject I think that for the benefit of those who do not have English as their first language we should clear up some points. There is no such word as 'Britian', you probably are trying to spell 'Britain' which in this context is wrong anyway. The word is 'Briton' meaning someone who comes from Great Britain. We can all make typos and I do not worry about them but you really should try to spell the name of your own country correctly.

VOODOOPENGUIN,i would class richard branson, paul macnartny.elton john, the list could go on and on, who have allways looked after their own, without the goverment support in many social ???????? issues, facts dont lie, putting something in, and taking twice as much out, i wouldn't call that a great britian, i would call that guilt, and voodoopenguin i'm not putting anybody down, i'm just stating a fact. if twenty mentally handicapped people were taking out for day, and someone hadn't got time to give them an autograph, i wouldn't call them a true brit would you, see i can print the facts and the truth.
