Crewe boss Steve Holland admitted another mistake had cost his side dearly after their 1-0 defeat to Leeds United on Monday night.United were gifted the winner by keeper Ben Williams' rush of blood as he attempted to claim a Peter Sweeney cross that was always travelling over his head.
Jermaine Beckford arrived with perfect timing to nod into an empty net and leave Williams looking embarrassed.
Holland said: "Their goal was a soft goal to concede and that is an ongoing problem for us. Ben has come for the ball and he has got to make it or it drops into the net. He didn't make it and it has cost us.
"We improved in the second half and caused problems. Ben Rix nearly scored and their keeper did well to get out quickly and block. We hit the bar as well and had chances, so we could have got something out of the game.
"I'm not saying we were the better side but I just felt it was a game we could have taken something from."
