Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has gone back into hospital for a third operation on kidney stones, leaving assistant Sammy Lee in charge of the Premier League leaders.
Lee said he hoped the Spaniard would be back in time for the two derby matches against Merseyside rivals Everton.
"It's a difficult time for him because you know Rafa Benitez, all he wants to do is be out there on the training pitch with his players," Lee told the club's website.
"He's going for the third operation but we're hoping it won't keep him out for too long, hopefully just a couple of days."
Liverpool host the Toffees in the league on Monday January 19 before the teams return to Anfield for their FA Cup fourth-round tie six days later.

Get well soon Rafa, from a TRUE Liverpool fan! Come on Sammy, you did a fantastic job when you took over the responsibilities, I hope you do it again...
This is football!!!no mercy at all!!!!!hahahahaah.....benitez talk to much..he said ferguson should care about his own team..BUT...benitez forgot about something...THAT IS TO TAKE CARE HIS HEALTH...NXT TIME DONT TALK NONSENSE
MAN UTD COMING SOON TOP OF THE TABLE IS DRIVING RAFA SICK.
It realy is very disturbing to read some of the comments on here about Rafa - how can you possibly wish someone ill health or death - I think this goes to show that we still have a lot of idiots out there that really are not true supporters. I support The Arsenal but join in with true football fans in wishing Rafa a speedy recovery - I really hope Liverpool win the title this year as I know the Arsenal wont and I would hate for Manu to win it they are so pig headed. I oftern wonder what kind of a manager Fergie would be if he didn't have lots of money to spend. I bet he wouldn't manage as well as Mr. Wenger thats for sure.
Hope Rafael Beneathus is ok.
Looks like it really is "itchy bum time" for him.
get well boss man and bring the title home rafa and shut up the glory hunters of manchester once and 4 all
the kopalite
To all the true football supporters out there no matter what club you follow its nice to see your well wishes for Rafa I'm a Liverpool girl through & through & have loved this beautifull game for years yet I wouldn't wish harm or pain to anyone even Fergie!! Its good to know there are others out there who appreciate the game for what it is & can enjoy a game of good football even if it aint thier team doing the winning (as we've all been in that position at some stage during a season)Thank You for restoring my faith that true supporters DO exist Get well soon Rafa & keep up the good work lads the season aint over yet :)
He's afraid of Manchester United.
I hope they keep him in hospital untill the end of the season, then we might stand a chance of winning the premier league.
As a Man U fan I find the comments about RAFA from so called Man U FOOTBALL fans a tad disturbing. I hope the guy gets better soon, but that don't mean I have to like him.
its only kidney stones, nothing to worry about, if i was a man u fan i,d be far more worried about Fergusons purple nose, sure sign of liver damage from the drink

people like you should just keep there mouths shut if that the only drivel you can come out with you aint a football supporter but u are a sick individual to wish death or pain on anyone ..... firstly even as a Utd fan so what if Rafa has had a dig at fergie im sure Fergie isnt going to lose sleep and Rafa is entitled to his opinion but He is a human being and a first class manager irrelevant of who he manages so i wish him all the best and a speedy recovery ....some people need to grow up !!
Get well soon Rafa.
