Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has gone back into hospital for a third operation on kidney stones, leaving assistant Sammy Lee in charge of the Premier League leaders.
Lee said he hoped the Spaniard would be back in time for the two derby matches against Merseyside rivals Everton.
"It's a difficult time for him because you know Rafa Benitez, all he wants to do is be out there on the training pitch with his players," Lee told the club's website.
"He's going for the third operation but we're hoping it won't keep him out for too long, hopefully just a couple of days."
Liverpool host the Toffees in the league on Monday January 19 before the teams return to Anfield for their FA Cup fourth-round tie six days later.

ooook... fergie's right, rafa was disturbed coz rafa stressing bout his 3rd operation, probably the medical terms not covered in his contract... hahhahaha... he's always hold form go to the john, that's why he got kidney stone... what a jackass!!!
United have WON again.. Someone tell the fat chap and thank him again from all United fans for the help he has given us. As for his stones - who gives a @#$%
I wish Rafa well and I reckon he is having his marbles put back in and the kidney stones actually taken out this time.
Best news i`ve heard today, scouse muppet
FERGIE BARK AT THE REF, AND THE MATCH CHANGE IN HIS FAVOUR, I HAVE SEEN THE PREMIER FOR YEARS, AND IF YOU ALL DO NOT SEE THIS YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT FOOTBALL, ALSO THE REFS, ARE SO SO BAD, THEY SHOULD BE PUNISHED AS WELL. IT TOOK SOMEONE FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY TO SAY SOMETHING ABOUT FERGUSON, THE OLD DOG KNOWS IT. IF YOU PLAY FOOTBALL YOU WILL KNOW SOME OF THE MANAGERS TRICKS. FAIR ENOUGH, BUT ACCEPT, WHAT WE ALL SEE, HOW THE REFS BLOW FOR MAN U.
cherylmatthews oh you're really grown up....physically if nothing else.
It is one of the closest prems in years so its understandable that those who had the monopoly on the top spots are therefore very nervous, unbelievable but given a few dropped points and "lower" teams doing a good run you could have the "top four " replaced by those who have never been there before. Ooh isn't it exciting though. Liverpool hopefully can keep pressure on Man U until the end and hopefully nick it, meantime Munich, Heysel, Hillsbrough and others were tragedies and those who blame people as if they were someway caused deliberately by individuals these people are unfortunately full of hate for some reason and should look at the reason for this hate because its not football causing it, they should Kop on and chill out its exciting and a wonderful sport to follow but its not the be all and end all (see the comment about gaza children loving to see a football game) and oh .. YNWA
Rafa's faking it was when he just seen the man u chealsea score
Good job post#46. I hope post#40 get the sense of your message and bury himself in shame. Urban Knight, you are a true ManU fan. It clearly show the defference between those who buy ticket to watch their team and those who beg for sit at the bar to watch their club. Post#40 something for you to think about! Liverpool4life!
probably shocked that torres thinks utd will win the premership which they will anyway
Despite his idiosyncracies and his strange rants, which will only unsettle his own players, I wish the guy no harm. Hope you have a speedy recovery Rafa. (MUFC)
Its quite shameful and disgusting some of the comments post on this site. I mean, if you dont have a better thing to say to contribute to football gist, I think it will be more honorable to keep quiet and listen to mature football fans talk. I want all ManU fans to read the comment of post 68 and 74 and learn from them. Andy H and Julie C, you guys are mature.
Great comment beef_cake74! YNWA
to cheryl matthews. you got some front. talking about rafa being an immigrant when u got that diver ronaldo . who incidently he too is an immigrant , whiskey mac ferguson , who incidently is also an immigrant from across hadrians wall, and last but not least SHREK,ONCE A BLUE,ALWAYS A RED ROONEY , who happens to be an immigrant, from just down the east lancs road in a place , you darlin had best get used to hearing about called LIVERPOOL CHAMPIONS 2009 . swivel on that 1 hunny !!!!!
Maybe Rafa should stop trying to play Fergie at his own game, look what happens then - you draw against Stoke while watching United slaughter Chealsea to be in a mathematically better position than you, and to top it all off you go and make yourself ill!!!!!
On a more serious note, much as I hate Liverpool and dislike you for being manager of that tripe, here's hoping it's not major from all the true United fans out there, the same ones that would observe a silence for Hillsborough in the same way as one for Munich. Hope you are back where you belong in the dugout soon.
cherylmatthews, you also sound like a very nice classy bird too, lets hope, everyone close to you remains in good health
Poor Bennie!!!
I believe Gary Neville has been in hospital having a charisma bypass operation
whiffer your a disgrace to football fans all over the uk,pathetic little man
enough he's a human being a father and if it was your father you would wish him well he without sin throw the first stone guess thats no body on this site. get well soon
