Premier League - Kaka cool on Man City move

Eurosport - Thu, 15 Jan 09:13:00 2009

Kaka has distanced himself from a £91 million move from Milan to Manchester City, saying he wants "to grow old" with the Serie A club.

Despite talks between the two teams over a world-record deal, the Brazilian said he wanted to become captain of Milan, and said he had rejected the chance to leave the San Siro.

Kaka said: "My objective is to become, in the future, captain of this team. I know that there are people older than me and first there are (Paolo) Maldini and (Massimo) Ambrosini, but after that...

"I have already turned down significant offers."

City executives travelled to Italy on Tuesday to meet with their Milan counterparts, and the Brazilian playmaker's agent said a move to Eastlands before the end of January is "not impossible".

City chairman Garry Cook, two representatives of owner Sheikh Mansour and Kia Joorabchian, who is acting as a mediator, met with Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani and club advisor Ernesto Bronzetti.

Milan attempted to play down the meeting's significance, saying: "Galliani received a delegation from Manchester City yesterday in Milan as a gesture of courtesy like always in these cases.

"There are no talks at the moment."

However, Kaka's agent Diogo Kotscho confirmed City's interest and said the 26-year-old would like to play in the Premier League.

However, he also warned that City's reported contract offer of £13.5m per season would not be enough to persuade him to move.

"To accept Manchester City, Kaka wouldn't consider only the money, but the competitiveness of the English side," Kotscho said.

"Ricky (Kaka) would like a strong side. He would never do something like Robinho, who, just to earn more, contented himself without a winning solution."

The talismanic Brazilian has been linked with a switch to City ever since the Abu Dhabi United Group took control and immediately made bold claims regarding transfer policy - including the boast they would pay £135m for Cristiano Ronaldo.

City's sensational £32m capture of Robinho under the nose of Chelsea proved Mark Hughes's side have the spending power to entice world class talent, but club president Silvio Berlusconi said he thought Kaka was not for sale.

"I know nothing about a Manchester City offer for Kaka," said Berlusconi. "I think he's not transferable and given that is the case, he will stay at Milan."

In November Kaka admitted he was flattered by City's reported interest, but said it would be difficult to leave Milan.

Kaka has scored 86 goals in 244 games since moving to the San Siro in 2003. City fans may have fond memories of his demolition of Manchester United in the 2006-07 Champions League semi-final.

  3. Lets get things straight, the premier league is THE BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD forget seria A or La liga. As for Man City trying to sign kaka... why would a world class footballer such as kaka` go to a team barely a point past the relegation zone. Ask Robinho next year how the championship is.

  16. The world is @#$% up!! No one man is worth that much - to kick a football around!! We have an Arab who wastes money whilst his cousins are dying in GAZA - The money talked about could build Several schools and hospitals. But it appears that football has more worthy need.

We need a public uprising in the world - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!

    PLEASE WAKE UP!!

  18. Who the F**k are Man City??? They may have more money than all the other clubs, but they haven't got the history. Money can't buy love. Look at the rapid decline of Chelski - all the money in the world and they still get smashed by Manchester United. Oh, anyone remember Lazio? All those millions, all those big players but it didn't take long for Milan and Juventus to close the gap and overtake them. Money can only get you so far, but history lasts forever.
