Dakar - Cars: Sainz win beats Peterhansel record
Fri, 14 Jan 20:48:00 2011
Carlos Sainz recorded his 23rd career stage victory in the Dakar Rally after taking the 555km stage from San Juan to Cordoba.
The win means that Sainz breaks the record of Stephane Peterhansel for Dakar stage victories.
The veteran Spaniard won his sixth stage of this year's event in the process, but problems over the last couple of days mean that Sainz is no threat to overall leader Nasser Al-Attiyah, who has a healthy advantage in the standings.
The Qatari driver negotiated the stage comfortably enough, eventually taking third place six minutes and 11 seconds behind Sainz.
South African Griniel De Villiers separated the pair - just as he does in the overall standings - grabbing a second-placed finish.
The final stage of this year's rally takes place on Saturday, with Al-Attiyah's lead of more than 48 minutes looking unassailable.

Contgrats to Sainz for the win but I am pretty sure Peterhansel has 50+ career stage wins. On the other side if we are talking cars only(which isn't mentioned in the article), Sainz does have the most stage wins.
Bravo El Matador - winning is not always the ultimate trophe - being there and competing is the best reward
