Marshall's trip down memory lane

Fri 15 Feb, 02:00 PM

Coventry goalkeeper Andy Marshall has his sights set on another FA Cup final appearance after a trip down memory lane.Marshall was part of Dennis Wise's Millwall side that reached the final in 2004, losing 3-0 to Manchester United at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

He describes that achievement as the "biggest feat" of his career.

With Championship rivals West Brom the visitors to the Ricoh Arena in the fifth round on Saturday, Marshall knows he has a chance to reach the competition's latter stages again.

"Our cup form has been very good this season and if we can get into the last eight, who knows what could happen from there?" said Marshall.

"Obviously, I would love to get to the final again. Getting to the FA Cup final has got to be my biggest feat in football. I think only winning it would be able to better it."

Recalling the run he enjoyed almost four years ago with Millwall, Marshall said: "Everything went our way that year, even luck, as we could have drawn either Manchester United or Arsenal in the semi-finals but instead we got Sunderland.

"But at no point did we ever think we would get all the way to the final. We played Tranmere in the quarter-finals and we thought it would be a nice little bonus if we could win that one.

"Then, all of a sudden, we got Sunderland and we were thinking, 'hang on a minute'. But deep down I still don't think we believed we would get to the final, even though we were all hoping we would."

He added: "Millwall getting to the final was a big thing. You couldn't actually believe that a club of that size and stature could achieve what they did that year.

"Four years ago, I would have said it couldn't possibly happen, but we did it. We had an exceptional time and we had an exceptional team.

"The memories from that year will stay with me forever, but hopefully at some point in my career I might get the chance to experience it again."
