Darlington needed a response and it came from Abbott in the 32nd minute. He was left unmarked inside the area and after a quick look up to see where Phil Barnes was he deftly lobbed the stranded keeper to put the hosts back in the game.
Abbott grabbed an equaliser in the 44th minute when he arrived unmarked at the far post and sidefooted the ball in past Barnes.
The comeback was complete in the 64th minute when Tommy Wright turned on the edge of the area and fired a brilliant shot into the far corner.
