Burga unhappy with FIFA decision

The Peruvian Football Federation has expressed dismay at FIFA's decision to retain the limitations on games played in venues at high altitude. The South American Football Confederation submitted a request for reconsideration after FIFA's executive committee outlined limitations for games at high altitude in December 2007.

But, after considering the request, FIFA upheld their initial decision, prompting Peruvian Football Federation president Manuel Burga to brand their actions as an "act of discrimination against football universally."

"I express my solidarity with Bolivia," he told EFE news agency.

"The ban of playing at high altitude could lead them to take other discriminative measures, such as not playing in excessive cold or heat."

FIFA stressed their decision is based upon conclusions from a medical symposium in Zurich and that their main objective is to protect footballers' health.

"I have always been respectful of FIFA's decisions, but this doesn't mean that I accept, for example, that medical report," added Burga.

"We know how to counter that report with science and we believe that that we can talk about that and convince the FIFA with our point of view."
