Fletcher fires Hibs into top three

Sat 15 Mar, 05:45 PM

Hibernian moved into the top three of the SPL with a 2-0 home victory over Kilmarnock, while crisis-torn Gretna were beaten 3-0 by Aberdeen.HIbernian broke the deadlock in the 29th minute with a clinical finish from Filipe Morais before highly-rated youngster Steven Fletcher made sure of the points in the 73rd minute with a stinging shot.

Meanwhile Chris Maguire's first goal since Boxing Day 2006 and two second-half strikes handed Aberdeen a flattering 3-0 victory over crisis-stricken Gretna.

With Gretna in administration and struggling to survive, this game had been in serious doubt and was only able to take place when the Scottish Premier League gave the Borders club a sorely-needed cash advance.

The final scoreline was harsh on Gretna, but despite a determined performance they were undone by Maguire's clinical finish, a Lee Miller penalty and a powerful drive from Barry Nicholson.

Elsewhere, on-loan striker Billy Clarke came off the bench to hit the winner at Inverness as Falkirk strengthened their hold on a top-six place with a 1-0 win.

The Ipswich player, who had failed to score in 22 games for the Tractor Boys this season, broke his duck for Falkirk on his sixth Bairns appearance after fellow substitute Russell Latapy created the chance.

Inverness had no answer to the 86th-minute goal and for Craig Brewster's side the result was a fifth successive defeat.

Saulius Mikoliunas rescued a point for Hearts with a late leveller as they drew 1-1 with St Mirren at Love Street.

Jim Hamilton had fired the Buddies ahead just before the hour mark after Craig Dargo nodded the ball down to him.

But winger Mikoliunas thwarted the home side's victory hopes when he arrowed a superb shot past Chris Smith three minutes from time.

The match between Motherwell and Celtic was the latest game to fall foul of the weather at Fir Park.

The much-criticised surface, which is also being used by Gretna this season, has repeatedly failed pitch inspections in recent weeks.
