Wayne Gray's seventh goal of the season saw Leyton Orient take a stride towards the play-offs with a 1-0 win against Millwall at the New Den.Despite impressive away wins at Yeovil and Swansea, Kenny Jackett's Lions failed to convert early chances at the New Den, with the 57th-minute red card for Marc Laird for a tackle on John Melligan adding salt to the wounds.
Millwall will be pleased to see the back of Melligan after he contributed to the dismissal of Laird and found Gray unmarked on 50 minutes to slot home the only goal.
Lions winger Ryan Smith burst through just before the break only to be chopped down by Brian Saah, who was lucky just to see only yellow from Andy D'Urso.
But after the break the Lions were caught cold just four minutes in by the link-up between Melligan and Gray, with the former Wimbledon hitman firing in.
The home side responded well to the set back and threw everything at the O's but couldn't find a way through - and Orient were unfortunate not to double their lead in stoppage time but striker Jabo Ibehre's effort hit the woodwork.
