Everton manager David Moyes believes midfielder Leon Osman can earn himself an England call-up if he maintains his current form. The 26-year-old has turned in some sparkling performances recently and his boss does not see any reason why the player cannot force his way into the reckoning for Fabio Capello's England squad.
The Toffees certainly rate him highly enough, giving him a new four-year contract in January.
"I think Leon Osman is a really good team player for us," said Moyes.
"He can play in two or three roles: he can play wide for us, he was a forward and he has got a goal head on him as well.
"The more and more we see him the more I think central midfield might be his best position.
"He is a good player. There was an England B international last season in which Phil Jagielka and Joleon Lescott were involved and I think Leon Osman could have been close to that.
"Some of his performances have been very close (to international standard).
"It is a big jump and a big step but Ossie has done really well here at Everton."
Moyes takes his side to Fulham on Sunday dismissing talk of a hoodoo on a ground where they have lost their last eight visits and have not won since 1966.
"It has never been the happiest hunting ground for us at Fulham and we have to turn that around," said the Toffees boss.
"We have been breaking all sorts of records this season. I don't see anything in the form of a bogey - although we've been to Fulham and never really picked up any results.
"We have to make sure it does not happen this time."
Moyes welcomes Lee Carsley back from suspension but has an injury doubt over key midfielder Tim Cahill.
The Australia international missed the midweek UEFA Cup exit to Fiorentina with hip and foot injuries and he will be given as long as possible to recover before Moyes names his team.
