Crewe claimed a comfortable 3-0 away victory against fellow relegation battlers Gillingham at Priestfield as the home side's slide continues. Tom Pope, Nicky Maynard and Dean Morgan scored the goals and to make matters worse for the sorry Gills, Kevin Maher was sent off on his home debut.
The Alex went into the game without a win in five but they bossed the early stages and were in front on just nine minutes when Morgan picked up goalkeeper Ben Williams' clearance and set up Pope, who chipped over the despairing Simon Royce.
In the 36th minute Maynard spurned a great chance to increase Crewe's lead but he dragged his shot wide of the post after being put through by Michael O'Connor.
Gills' Adam Miller hit the post from the edge of the area three minutes into the second half - but Maynard poked home Alex's second from Gary Roberts' cross two minutes later.
Things went from bad to worse for the hosts when Maher was shown a straight red card for a studs-up challenge on Kenny Lunt and Morgan slotted home the third 14 minutes from the end.
