Frankie Simek is targeting the Steel City derby as his Sheffield Wednesday first-team comeback for Brian Laws' struggling Owls. The American right-back will play his second game back from an ankle injury for the Owls reserves against Leeds on Tuesday, after playing 90 minutes versus a York second-string in midweek.
Simek damaged ligaments in Wednesday's away defeat at Crystal Palace in December, causing him to miss his side's memorable 2-0 derby win over Sheffield United in January.
"I had bruising on the bone, and the cartilage was giving me a bit of a problem, so it turned out to be a bit longer [than expected]," Simek told the Sheffield Star. "I've played in two Sheffield derbies and we lost them both - I hope to play in the next one."
On his reserve team return, Simek said: "Obviously it wasn't as high tempo as in a Championship match, but just to get back playing again was good," he added.
"The physio told me he wanted me to play for 60 minutes but I felt pretty good so I got the full 90 minutes in."
