Former Rangers defender Arthur Numan believes the current crop of Ibrox stars can pull off an unprecedented Quadruple this season.Numan admits they are not the most entertaining side to watch, and lack the outstanding individuals that graced the jersey in Walter Smith's first period in charge.
But he feels their organisation and defensive strengths will see them through to the SPL title, even if they lose at Celtic on Wednesday night.
And he will not write off their UEFA Cup hopes ahead of their semi-final against Fiorentina.
"It has been amazing, after Walter Smith took over you can see a big difference, the players play with confidence," Numan said.
"Lifting the CIS Cup helped the team as well after three years without a trophy and all of a sudden now they can win the treble and they have reached the semi-final of the UEFA Cup.
"It is an unbelievable season, they can win four trophies, they can be the team in Rangers' history who can achieve something that has never been achieved before.
"The team from 'nine in a row' was completely different, there were some outstanding players like Brian Laudrup, Paul Gascoigne, Ally McCoist.
"This is a team that plays as a team. Walter Smith has managed to get good organisation, this is a team that does not give a lot of goals away, how many times they keep to nil is remarkable.
"To be honest it is not always attractive and entertaining but nowadays it is all about the result.
"If you ask any manager across Europe, they will tell you it is all about getting the three points and winning trophies. And so far they are doing a fantastic job."
The former Holland international admits the Ibrox club's run to the last four of the UEFA Cup has surprised him.
But now they have got there after last week's 2-0 win at Sporting Lisbon, he can see them going all the way to the final at the City of Manchester Stadium on May 14.
"When you see some of the teams they have been beaten so far, it is unbelievable - Panathinaikos and Werder Bremen," Numan said.
"I thought they would struggle against Werder Bremen but they managed to score two goals at Ibrox.
"It is quite an achievement. A lot of people are surprised they are in the UEFA Cup semi-final, including myself.
"But the way they play, they are very hard to beat. They are well organised, they have a lot of players behind the ball, so it is very difficult to score against Rangers."
Numan was impressed with Fiorentina's 2-0 win at PSV Eindhoven in the quarter-finals but he thinks Rangers can knock out the Italians if they deal with former Chelsea forward Adrian Mutu.
"I was hoping for a clash against PSV Eindhoven, so at least one of my former teams would make the final," he said.
"But Fiorentina are a great side, of course the danger up front is Mutu.
"He scored two great goals against PSV Eindhoven so if they can keep him quiet there is a good chance they can reach the final."
