Swans chief will not spend big

Tue 15 Apr, 12:30 PM

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins insists City will not squander money on players this summer following promotion to the Championship.Jenkins is keen for the Swans to continue to progress under the shrewd stewardship of boss Roberto Martinez, but not at the risk of jeopardising the club's long-term financial future.

"So many (clubs) try to gamble on quick-fix solutions and we all know that in football it takes time," said Jenkins.

"Many clubs have fallen foul of spending too much money and sometimes spending too much money on the wrong players. I think that's what makes or breaks a football club.

"I think there's a balanced view that there are sides who are achieving quite a lot and haven't spent that much.

"Spending money on good players who can grow with the club and invest their futures in the club is a different thing."
