Ben Arfa To Delay Contract Decision

Tue 15 Apr, 11:09 AM

Sought-after Lyon winger Hatem Ben Arfa will wait until the summer before deciding on his future.

The France international has started on the bench in most of Les Gones' recent games, and a number of leading European teams have been put on alert.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, for example, is a known admirer of the left-winger while Marseille are also believed to be keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.

Ben Arfa maintains he is happy at the Stade Gerland but will wait until the end of the season before deciding whether to extend his contract at Lyon or move on.

"The talks are advancing well and I feel happy at Lyon," he said. "And, for the moment, my future is not news. We will see about all that at the end of the season."

He admits he is frustrated at being snubbed continually by coach Alain Perrin, despite his star showing as a substitute against Marseille recently in an hour-long cameo that took the breath away.

The wideman's sizzling performance prompted OM president Pape Diouf to claim he "would not hesitate a second" to sign Ben Arfa, saying: "He is extraordinary - even if it's for a single wonderful piece of skill per game, I'd take him right now."

Ben Arfa added in L'Equipe: "I am disappointed at not playing more and I see that a lot of people are surprised to see me often on the bench.

"But I can only hope to get my place back in the team. It is all I can do insofar as the coach has never told me why I am a substitute.

"I still have hope and a desire to play."
