The 25-year-old has managed seven league goals for the Lilywhites this season and is keen to remain with the club for the foreseeable future.

"I've got a year left at Preston, but I'd love to stay much longer than that because I think there could be really exciting times ahead under Alan Irvine," Mellor told the Lancashire Evening Post.

"I'm desperate to stay and I want to repay the faith that Alan Irvine has had in me.

"I want to pledge my future to Preston North End and be part of what will hopefully be a special time.

"Alan Irvine has given me a real opportunity. I'm trying to do well and prove that I can be part of his plans for next season."
