Jon Dahl Tomasson's season appears to be over as the Villarreal striker continues to struggle with a stomach injury.

The 31-year-old sustained the injury two weeks ago and in his absence Villarreal have fallen to consecutive defeats against Sevilla and Almeria and slipped to third place in La Liga.

And it now looks unlikely the Denmark international will play again this season as the injury he sustained has proved to be worse than first thought.

"I undergo two treatments per day every day so I can see improvement already," Tomasson told Ekstra Bladet. "Unfortunately I have to avoid any physical activity.

"I don't think that I will be able to go back to training within the next few weeks, I am not in top shape at the moment."

Villarreal have six games left to play this season and are just a point behind second-placed Barcelona, who occupy the last automatic Champions League spot.
