Thu 15 May, 02:15 PM

Assistant boss Stuart Watkiss believes Grimsby must strengthen if they are to have a "realistic chance" of mounting a promotion bid.The Mariners' assistant admitted results have not been good enough over the last two seasons and "better players" are required.

Watkiss told the club's official website: "We want to get better players in, we need to get better players in.

"If I'm to sit here, look you in the eye and say we have a realistic chance of getting out of this division, we need to get better players. We need a better squad.

"Results over the two years that I've been here will tell you we need to improve the squad.

"That doesn't mean the players we have here are not good enough. There's a lot of ability within our dressing room."
