VX Racing man chasing first win of campaign.
Tom Onslow-Cole will be looking for a first win of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season at Thruxton this Sunday on the same weekend that he celebrates his 21st birthday.
The VX Racing man, who has one BTCC win to his name so far after a victory at Snetterton last year, enjoyed his best weekend to date with Vauxhall last time out at Donington Park - taking pole position and three podiums at the wheel of his Vectra VXR.
Onslow-Cole, who will turn 21 tomorrow [Friday], will now hope to build on that form and the pace he showed at both Brands Hatch and Rockingham to try and pick up his first Vauxhall victory and he said he was confident of being amongst the front-runners once again at a circuit where the Vectra is expected to run well.
"I've had a fantastic weekend at Donington Park and I will still be fired-up when we arrive at Thruxton," he said. "My best result at Thruxton so far was a seventh place and I'm sure I can improve on this.
"The Vectra VXR is a very good car and following my first-ever BTCC pole position at Donington Park and my three podium finishes, I'm very confident I can be up there again. Thruxton will also be a special weekend for me as it is my 21st birthday on the Friday."
Team-mate Matt Neal meanwhile will be chasing his second victory of the campaign having won the final race of the weekend at Rockingham and, like Onslow-Cole, he predicted a strong showing at the high speed Hampshire venue.
"Thruxton is the fastest circuit on the calendar and the only one that hasn't been spoilt by little chicanes," he said. "It's a flat-out blast all way round and it asks for big commitment.
"It's been a tough season so far with the field having moved quite a lot closer compared to last year. We've shown we have a great package and looking at Vauxhall's statistics from previous years, I feel we will be very competitive again."
