Durham Left To Rue Di Venuto Dismissal

Thu 15 May, 04:09 PM

Durham captain Michael Di Venuto failed to add to his overnight total of 184 as the hosts were bowled out for 406 on the second day of their LV County Championship Division One match against Yorkshire.

Di Venuto dominated proceedings on day one at the Riverside, with no-one else scoring more than 30, but was trapped lbw in Tim Bresnan's first over of the day.

That took Bresnan's tally to four wickets for the innings but the hosts were frustrated by a knock of 60 from Paul Wiseman before he was last man out to Adil Rashid.

Yorkshire survived three overs to reach lunch at 13 without loss.

Paul Franks struck a double blow just before the break to boost Nottinghamshire's hopes of victory against Lancashire.

Twenty wickets fell yesterday but the visitors were progressing well in their second innings, reaching 70 for none before Franks removed Gary Keedy (29) and Paul Horton (37) to leave Lancashire on 77 for two, still 12 runs behind.

At the Rose Bowl, Hampshire recovered from the early loss of Jimmy Adams to progress to 100 for two in reply to Surrey's 278.

Adams edged a Jimmy Ormond outswinger behind for a duck with the hosts still stuck on their overnight total of 13 but Michael Brown and Michael Lumb held firm in testing conditions.

Opener Brown had closed to within three runs of a half-century at lunch while Lumb was 34 not out.

Bad weather meant there was no play this morning in the match between Somerset and Sussex at Taunton while the Division Two encounters in Cardiff (Glamorgan v Derbyshire) and Worcester (Worcestershire v Gloucestershire) also saw no play.

The match at Grace Road between Leicestershire and Northamptonshire looks to be heading for a draw after the visitors reached 232 for three on the penultimate day in reply to Leicestershire's 527.

Riki Wessels and Niall O'Brien (78) fell in quick succession but an unbeaten partnership of 65 between David Sales (28 not out) and Rob White (38no) steadied the ship.
