The Russian government have urged English football fans to behave "respectfully" at next week's Champions League final between Manchester United and Chelsea in Moscow.

Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said the authorities would look to ensure there were no attacks on English fans in revenge for the stabbing of a Russian fan at Wednesday night's UEFA Cup final in Manchester between Rangers and Zenit St Petersburg.

Speaking to Chelsea and United fans in a video conference ahead of next week's game, Mr Mutko urged the fans of the losing side not to react violently.

And he said the police and military on duty in the city would control the event in a "proper and calm way".

"We will make sure there will be no revenge attacks or anything like that," he said.

"Lots of things happen around football but we cannot blame football for them."

Drinking will be banned on the streets of the city and there will be no big screens for fans to watch the match on.

"I think in Manchester I saw maybe 100,000 Scots fans and I do not want to see the same picture in Moscow."

He went on: "We will have everything different here... and of course the fans of the losing team are going to be disappointed.

"We would like to call on the fans to appreciate that in football there is always a winner and a loser."
