Portsmouth have moved to deny claims that boss Harry Redknapp is set to quit the South Coast club.

The future of the 61-year-old had been called into question by newspaper reports ahead of Pompey's FA Cup final against Cardiff.

The Mail claimed that treatment by the police and media had pushed the former West Ham man to retire from football.

"It's an unbelievable load of rubbish, complete make-believe," club chief executive Peter Storrie told Portsmouth newspaper The News. "I can assure the fans that Harry is going absolutely nowhere.

"It's a joke," he added. "You just wonder whether these people have an agenda because it's doing us no good.

"We are about to play the FA Cup final and people are coming out with this. It's hardly helping things. We don't need this at this moment.

"Harry is furious about this - we all are. It's a load of rubbish."

Redknapp signed a new deal at Portsmouth earlier in the season after rejecting a big-money move to Newcastle, but it was claimed that sources close to him said he was set to quit provided his side won the FA Cup.

Reason for the 'decision' was given as his anger at a media-accompanied police raid on his family home as part of an ongoing investigation into corruption in football.

It was also said that he was disillusioned with the attitude of fans who booed his team off the pitch following their final-day Premier League defeat at home to Fulham.

Furthermore, Redknapp's wife Sandra - who recently lost her twin sister Pat Lampard to pneumonia - was reportedly distraught at the police action in November.
