Nottingham Forest have confirmed they have opened talks with Tottenham over defender Chris Gunter.
The Wales international enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Reds at the end of the recent Championship season and manager Billy Davies has made little secret of his desire to take the 19-year-old back to the City Ground on a more permanent basis.
"If I had the option of taking Gunter permanently I would do so," Davies said recently. "He epitomises the type of player we want to bring in. We have to approach Spurs and see if it is a possibility."
It is understood those discussions have now begun with Davies willing to take the former Cardiff man on a season-long loan if a permanent deal cannot be agreed.
Gunter is also keen to make a return to Forest and previously said: "If I went back and Tottenham said `you're still 19 and need to go out and play more games' and if Forest wanted me, I'd genuinely feel there wouldn't be too many better places to go than here."
