Premier League - Spurs to discipline King

Eurosport - Fri, 15 May 17:47:00 2009

Ledley King will be disciplined by Tottenham after being arrested outside a nightclub last weekend.

FOOTBALL Ledley King Tottenham - 0

The Tottenham defender has apologised to manager Harry Redknapp but he will be in the team which faces Manchester City at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Redknapp would not detail what punishment King would receive but he did launch an attack on the drink culture which pervades football.

Redknapp said: "Ledley will play tomorrow. He has apologised. He knows he was wrong. He made a mistake and he has to learn from that and make sure it doesn't happen again. I've had a good chat with him."

Redknapp added: "There is no problem with people having the occasional drink but if you have to get drunk you shouldn't be drinking.

"I don't want player going to nightclubs and misbehaving. The problems nearly all come when players get drunk. These players are role models. They've got kids looking up to them."

  3. Ledley must have a lengthy ban from playing for Spurs (starting on Monday after trip to Anfield and finishing in time for the preseason friendlies) So he had a few too many and gave a bouncer a bit of verbal,no`one died did they ? unlike our lads in Afghanistan are, but that is not tabloid news any more, thank goodness the next day they had the Emirates Embryonic dross to feature again!!
He is still my hero, the best centre half, we have had since the double winning side in the 60`s a fantastic and loyal guy and can play in the Premier League without training and we rarely lose when he is in the team, without him playing through the pain barrier, we might still be at the bottom of the league.
My only disappointment was it happened in a bad day for the club after the nightmare with Wilson Palacious a few hours earlier.

  9. I am a Spurs fan and without his injuries Ledley King would be the best Centreback in the country if not Europe. However this does not give him any right to blot his copybook with such behaviour and should conduct himself in a manner beffitting the club captain, England player and role model. Look how Rio Ferdinand conducts himself. Missed drugs test aside he is rarley caught out in such a manner. Harry should fine him two weeks wages and put him on a drink awareness course and a warning over future conduct. This is the 4th Time Spurs fans have seen their captain being carried out of clubs... Carling Cup final when we won we can accept.

  10. im a spurs fan and was apalled by his arrogant behaviour, im rich do u no who i am, yes ledley u are a lucky man who does no training all week, gets paid shed loads of money, and should realise that although he is good, not many teams will take him on with all those injurys and harry aint gonna tolerate that madness. You are suppose to be setting examples

  14. The issue for me was NOT that he got drunk but what he said " Im rich do you know who I am, Im rich and famous and dont deserve to be arrested". I can forgive the drunkeness but not the arrogance...loser.

  15. He gets paid ridiculous amounts of money NOT to get pissed and to keep himself in good shape. Because of the high profile of professional footballers they need to watch their step and if they cannot toe the line in reflection of their fantastic lifestyle then they should pack it in and go back to the building site where they can work for a fair days pay and no more and go and pissed and start fights every night of the week. They all have a choice, toe the line or *$?~ off.
