Premier League - Terry hails Hiddink effect

Eurosport - Fri, 15 May 14:43:00 2009

John Terry has said he only rediscovered his best form after interim coach Guus Hiddink took over from sacked Luiz Felipe Scolari as Chelsea boss.

FOOTBALL 2008-09 - Chelsea's John Terry and manager Guus Hiddink - 0

The Dutch coach transformed the Blues' fortunes after agreeing to replace the axed Brazilian and take control of the first team in February.

Hiddink, though, is set to leave Stamford Bridge after the FA Cup final against Everton on May 30 and return to his full-time post as coach of Russia's national side.

Captain Terry has played 48 Chelsea games this season, already more than in either of the previous two, and his next appearance - the 403rd - will put him in the top 10 of all time.

But while he is pleased overall with his form, he acknowledges that he only got back to his best when Hiddink arrived.

"I'm pretty pleased," said Terry. "At the start of the season I thought I was playing really well and it linked well to us doing well as a team, and a few others playing really well.

"I think the first 10 games of the season I was really good and then after that had a dip in form for maybe another 10 games where I wasn't at the levels I can be.

"But since the manager has come in from the first game at Aston Villa, I have been at the very top of my game again.

"When a few of us don't play well the team suffers and I think our most consistent performer has been Frank Lampard, as he has been for a few years.

"He's continued to play well every game all season long. A few of us might hold our hands up and say we didn't perform at the levels we can.

"I think it's important that we get our consistency as it has been the last few months and go again next season."

  1. chelsea should be proud their players care i would never complain if a man u player acted like the chelsea players in fact evra did last season, terry been poor at times this season but come on you cant call him @#$% zat knight is @#$% titus bramble is @#$% terry is excellent player just not so much this season especially lately where alex has outshone him with his goals, come next season there be above liverpool again where they belong but obviously behind united too

From Jimmyrice man u are champs again, on Fri 15 May 2:09PM
  2. scouser baiter, with that brain of yours you can't bait a fly let alone a scouser.

  3. scouse-baiter is 40 and still needs a good slap. he hates liverpool though which brings him up a bit.

  4. Rio was in the wrong for DD as they all are and i stand by my comment. It needs a calm but influential character to be captain not someone who clearly has an extremely short fuse. Passion is ok, uncontrollable aggression is not

  5. Silent - agreed but Rooney has calmed down a bit - Rio does exactly as Terry does - he gets in the referees face - its what the EPL wanted - captain to be the point of contact - dont let bias overrule a logical argument. Also you seem to have missed the point about Rio's drink drive convictions - still i,ve enjoyed our exchanges.

As for you Scouse - you really are a sad excuse of a human being - by your own hand you admit to hanging about just to annoy people - soooo sad. One day you may have a valid comment to make on some subject - dont be concerned when it happens it wont be a stroke just your brain working. Bye now

  6. trevor, it was photographed and reported and he didnt deny it, he said he was in a hurry, well arnt we all??????????

  7. hagen, we expect a certain standard of behaviour. Im not a footballer or in the public eye and i dont earn over £130,000 a week, nor do i represent my country on a public stage. HE DOES

From the silent assassin, on Fri 15 May 11:55AM
  8. trevor, ive never been much of a fan of rooney, i think his personality sucks and he has thrown his toys out of the pram too, but he has frequently been brought to task by SAF, who accepts him as he is in much the same way he did with Keane. The fact is that Terry is captain of club and country and as such a higher standard of behaviour must be expected

  10. lmao - this is soooooo seay - Silent dont believe everything you read in the papers - btw didnt Rio lose his licence for drink driving??? Maybe it is only worth a mention when its a Chelsea player - or any other not at Utd - as for you Scouse - if you are 40 it would be a good idea to try writing a sentence minus the expletives - it really is quite sad. BYE GUYS

  11. Terry cried not becouse he lost the CL final and didn't get the medal, he cried becouse it was him, the captain, who didn°t score. He cried becouse he let his team down. Champions League is the ultimate trophie in club football, and for many players it is the highlighte of the carrear. He had a chanse to win it, and he didn't take it.
But he bounced back from it, he is still our captain, and still the heart and soul of Chelsea FC and we can't imagine anyone else, being the captain of the team.

And for players behaviour.... Yes, we often say that if you are a footballer - you have to realise your actions, but players are also humans. Sometimes live leads to such situations, when no one couldn't stop from loosing their temper. Referees, media, fan abuse - all this can lead to those situations.
For instance, if someone said to silent assassin, that his mother is a ..... , his girl is a ......, and himself a ..... . The most logic and fully acceptable reaction would be with a fist in the eye. So why do you think the players should act differently?

Maybe people should start respecting each other...

From Ars, on Fri 15 May 11:50AM
  12. yes you's love him too. well done for commenting

From yip, on Fri 15 May 11:48AM
  13. Poor scouse - no one wants to play - go back to your PS3 child

    From trevor.wightman, on Fri 15 May 11:46AM
  14. as a law unto himself he even parks outside shops in a disabled space, which describes him well when hes had a few, and drives the wrong way up no entry roads cos he cant be bothered following the correct signs which the rest of us have to, and then gives the traffic warden a signed photo as a "please let me off", its not done by any other player to my knowledge, ONLY John Terry, just who does he think he is?????????

From the silent assassin, on Fri 15 May 11:45AM
  15. Silent - agreed to a point but the same goes for Rio and Rooney too - rose tinted glasses are all very well - just so long as they dont turn into blinkers

    From trevor.wightman, on Fri 15 May 11:42AM
  16. Scouse - have a look back through the thread - you will see that the majority of your posts are hidden - actions speak louder than words and obviously many readers are taking an action and giving you the thumbs down - btw should you not be at school???

    From trevor.wightman, on Fri 15 May 11:40AM
  17. trevor, i agree that hes not the first to break down and we need passion but he chases refs, screams and crys and gets involved in incidents that are none of his business which actually makes the situation worse. Heaven forbid we accept the suggestion that the captain is the only one entitled to challenge a refs decision, Chelski and Terry would be in even more trouble, the man just cant control himself, and by that i mean on and off the pitch. His behaviour is a disgrace and he is not a good role model in my opinion

From the silent assassin, on Fri 15 May 11:39AM
  18. Silent with you its possible to have a decent discussion the same cannot be said for 1 brain cell scouse-baiter - the unfortunate thing is that every honest opinion gets drowned out by childish slating. In answer to your question Terry is no different to many other Premier league "stars" - they all get targetted simply because of who they are - Terry has no control over the actions of his mother so put that one to bed - screaming in the face of referees - come on look closer to home Rio/Rooney/Ronaldo - they all do it - all passionate players do it - if they didn't we wouldnt want them in the team. Likewise he cried after the CL final - big deal - how many other matches have so called "hard men" broken down. Again at least it shows passion. We will probably never agree on this topic and I accept your right of expression - even tho that is the case I hope your lot absolutely stuff Platinis puppets in the CL final.

    From trevor.wightman, on Fri 15 May 11:28AM
  19. and believe me Scott when I say i despise him although his ugly, crying face makes me smile every time. I LOVE to see him when he's upset, which is often. And as for last years CL final, and this years semi for that matter, I'm still laughing at the memory of it, it brings a huge smile to my face every time

From the silent assassin, on Fri 15 May 11:27AM
  20. scott s, i can say what i like, its called freedom of speech and I believe that Terry is a DISGRACE, he's lost more than he's won and ur blind if you can't see that, MY OPINION
