Billy Davies is using the extra time given to him this summer to get to work on rebuilding his Nottingham Forest squad.
When in charge of both Preston and Derby, Davies guided the pair to the play-offs, meaning he was unable to start his transfer business until the end of May.
But as Forest only just managed to stave off relegation rather than challenge for promotion, Davies is experiencing a long summer for the first time in English football.
"It is a good feeling finishing this early for us," the Scot told the Nottingham Evening Post.
"I am intending on trying to get things concluded very soon. We are in negotiations with several clubs about players. The last thing I want to do is walk up and down a beach on holiday with my phone in my hand."
Forest have already opened talks with Tottenham over the potential signing of Chris Gunter, while discussions are also underway with QPR regarding Dexter Blackstock and Lee Camp.

Richard: So what I'm saying is - Yes you are right. But these guys are available now so let's get them. Lita on a free. And they are better than anything else around. Of course we also need Gunter, a keeper, Anderson (but going to Swansea?), etc. etc. Cheers
Agreed Richard. But we need goals too. Only Earnshaw with 15. Next is Tyson with 5. Not good enough to stay up next season.
I agree with kev get lita and blackstock along with tyson we would have a great strike force
i agree in a way but whats the point in have having 30 goals a season when the keeper lets in 60 work from the back billy coz thats where we struggle.
Lita has been released by Reading. Sign him and Blackstock quick. They will give us 30 goals a season.
