Ferguson refutes latest Tevez claims

Fri 15 May, 10:54 AM

Sir Alex Ferguson has distanced Manchester United from suggestions they could ask Carlos Tevez to break his contract with Kia Joorabchian.

With Ferguson admitting after Wednesday's win at Wigan that negotiations were more complicated because United were having to deal with Joorabchian rather than a club to gain Tevez's registration, it was claimed the Old Trafford outfit may use European law to break the deal between the player and his trusted advisor.

"We could all break our contracts," said Ferguson. "I am not discussing anything like that. It is a bit far-fetched really."

While United feel Tevez wants to stay at Old Trafford, Joorabchian has suggested the 25-year-old is keen to leave in the summer, when his 'leasing' agreement ends.

Certainly the £22million remaining to be paid on a previously agreed fee may begin to look small alongside the cash Tevez and Joorabchian could pocket elsewhere, especially if Manchester City pursue an interest.

However, Ferguson is reverting to previous policy and letting discussions run their course without any further intervention.

"There was a meeting with (chief executive) David Gill on Wednesday, that is a clear fact," he said.

"They discussed the avenue under which Carlos could stay with Manchester United. End of story.

"I realise you (the media) speak to his agent but I do not wish to discuss the matter any further."

  1. MU has a way of playeing dirty game with players. If I were Tevez I will pack my bag and leave. What is really so special about EPL that is to be proud of. Most of the players are foreign base, no wonder English national team is a disaster. They should go to hell.

  11. If clubs are prepared to pay £30m for him why dont Utd pay the £22m that they have to pay to close the deal and then sell him at profit, that would screw hs agent up. I dont think for one moment that they want any other club to have him and that they will sign him, why not they cant lose if all of the stories of big bids for him are right

  12. Cr*p. I got within two meters of Kia Joorabchian inside the Man Utd player's hospitality area in February, but assumed he was a member of Tevez's family until I left. I really wish I had socked him one in the teeth right now. United really need to sign Tevez up. Letting Carlos go feels like a mistake on par with Jaap Stam's sale. Yes, Carlitos goal ratio has dipped this year - but he is still producing when it really counts and he will bounce back next term if he is given the chance. The press is talking about blowing £20 million on winger Antonio Valencia, but christ.... put the £20 million where it's actually needed... Unless we want to go back to being a two-striker team again. Macheda is too raw, and who knows how long Ronaldo will stick around. Do you think a potential sticking point is Tevez many times declaring that he only intends to remain in Europe for a few more years? In that case £20 million might seem money unwisely spent. Just thinking, here.

  17. i'm a liverpool fan myself but think tevez is the best player man utd have got even if he doesnt score every game he works like a horse if he looses the ball he gets it back knowone can cope with the way he plays his football, every game he gets brought on he makes a diffrence weather he scores or just plays why they dont start him every game insted of the lazy berba is something i cant understand. i would be over the moon if we had the privalige for him to play at liverpool but i think he is a man utd play and should stay there i think it's wee his heart his he loves this team and the fans thisshows what a brilliant player!!!!!!!!
