Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink paid tribute to Manchester United's coolness under pressure as the Reds prepare to retain their title.
United need just a point from Saturday's home game with Arsenal to hang on to the Barclays Premier League crown.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side held their nerve under pressure from Liverpool and Chelsea to stay at the summit and Hiddink says they should be congratulated for doing so.
"Every team in this tough league will experience some period of 'less performances', which is normal," said Hiddink. "In that period, the quality of United was not to panic, to stick to their jobs.
"They could cope with the pressure because there was more pressure on Chelsea and Liverpool not to lose points, which we did with one defeat and a draw. They have a lot of experienced players, a lot of experience with their manager.
"They did not panic. Credit to them. They know how to play 'championship'. They are used to that. Many new teams who want to become champions might become a bit nervous on the edge of becoming champions. They did not."

sirstevejones14, by your handle i detect delusioary tenencies, i guess you must be one of these knowledgable liverpool fans? grow up
Hiddink is a miles apart from Benitez, you can even discern that from his concise and accurate analysis. He is a true gentleman & a pride to English & European football,
THANK YOU HIDDINK... HOPE YOUR TEAM WILL GET THE 2ND PLACE, IT'S NOT OVER YET RAFA!!!
hiddink is a muppet, a clueless piece of sh%T
This is why Hiddink is a successful manager. He recognizes the good and bad teams and praises not whining like the loooooooooserfool
Hiddink Benitez.
That fat spanish waiter will never be a top coach.
THANKS HIDDINK U CAN SEE THE LIGHT UNLIKE THE RAFAELS OF LOSERPOOL
yes, hiddink's class has always been at the fore and he displays that once again today. i'm hardly a chelsea fan as they're such a threat to my boys at united. (and drogba's hard to admire at times, too, eh...? lol)
however, across 30 years-plus of watching football, i've alwaysy enjoyed each and every chelsea fan that i've come across and discussed the sport; they've always been first-class in my personal experience and have been able to give stick with a genuine, good natured smile whiule demonstrating a real love for the game. maybe i've simply been fortunate, but the sheer numbers of great chelsea fans that i've spent time with suggests not.
on the other hand, maybe it's simply due to bad luck as every club has some bad folks, of course, but it's always very personal and poor-natured when i've come across 'pool fans. i've simply never understood that with their rich and great history - and clsssy players, too. just all seems rather odd to me when i hear a fan of another club fall into nine year old needs a nappy tantrum...lol
anyway, thank god for folks like hiddink...they're nothing but a plus and credit for the sport and his respective club.
Scott s,Regretfully you are probably right.Real football fans will pay tribute to the league winning team.
Clubs managers always will though.M.U.F.C
Are you listening Benitez you fat muppet? No sour grapes from Mr Hiddink...just pure class, humility & good sportsmanship!
hiddink is like a breath of fresh air in this league he is someone everyone i have spoke to likes and thinks is a great manager its a shame he is leaving
guus has been a breath of fresh air at the bridge why on earth didn't roman get him in when jose got the boot im not to sure on ancelotti coming in he loves an old player our squad needs trimming down anyway but credit to united fergie reshaped his team and it looks like 3 titles on the bounce
What a Decent man Guus is and a very good manager,It will be a shame not to see him in the prem next season. Why Cant the fat rat from loserpool be the same instead of is sneaky sly comments towards Sir Alex trying to cheat and ask other teams and referees to do them scum favours what loooosssseeeerrrrss!!!! benitiz is a fat fraud,HISTORY HISTORY HISTORY That's all we here day in day out ffs.
GLOOOOOOORY GLOOOOOOORY MAN UTD
WE WILL BE NEW PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2008/2009 THIS SATURDAY 16TH MAY 2009
FOR THE EIGHTEENTH TIME HAHAHA
AND ON THE 27TH MAY 2009 WILL BE NEW BACK TO BACK EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS 2008/2009
they deserve credit for being most consistant but we all know if chelsea hadnt given themselves so much drama the league would be different.
nice of you to say jamie but I doubt thats true.
i think he is a true gentlement and a football legend. england sud have signed him instead of mclaren and England would be a succesfull team. he is one of the best coaches in world football his tactics are to detail. completly changed chelsea around when he came in and that was without needing to spend, working with the tools he had to do the job. No moaning no complaining like Rafa Benitez abouts squads, money etc etc...
Well said Mr Hiddink. You could be sure if the tables were reversed, chelsea would get the same compliments from the United camp.M.U.F.C
