Rangers will have to produce a cash-only deal for Fulham's Steven Davis after the London club dropped their interest in Ibrox striker Daniel Cousin.

Davis impressed on loan in Glasgow in the final four months of the season and is keen on a permanent switch to his boyhood favourites.

But the Northern Ireland midfielder's agent has urged Rangers to conclude a deal soon, with West Ham and Middlesbrough also credited with showing interest.

And Rangers will not be able to use Cousin as a bargaining tool despite Fulham being prepared to sign the Gabon international in January.

Rangers accepted a £3million offer for the striker but FIFA blocked the move as he had also played for Lens earlier in the season.

Rob Segal, agent of 23-year-old Davis, told the Mail on Sunday: "I think Fulham have no interest in Daniel Cousin - so this is a straight deal for Rangers and Fulham to do.

"There is a certain amount of urgency now because I think Rangers are back in training in a few weeks and Steven definitely wants it concluded.

"The clubs are in conversation to see if they can come to an agreement. Hopefully we are heading in the right direction."

Rangers boss Walter Smith would appear keen to offload Cousin, who made no secret of his desire to play in the Barclays Premier League soon after joining the Gers in August.

Rangers have already added to their strikeforce by completing a £2million move for Kenny Miller on Friday and agreeing a deal with Viking Stavanger for former Hearts goalscorer Andrius Velicka.

Velicka is excited about his return to Scotland, which is expected to be tied up tomorrow.

"This is the kind of chance I have been waiting for since I was nine years old and started to play football," he told the Sunday Mail.

"It is also an opportunity to help improve the reputation of Lithuanian footballers."
