TENNIS 2008 - Russia's Nikolay Davydenko celebrates after winning the final of the Warsaw Open in Poland - 0

The world number four, who won the Polish event in its previous home of Sopot two years ago, lost his serve just once against the misfiring second seed.

"Every game in this match was difficult for me," Davydenko, 27, said. "In the first set I broke him but then he broke me back.

"I have to say that the last point was lucky for me.

"All Spanish players like Nadal and Robredo play a pretty similar game - not too fast with more topspin - so I have more time to prepare, but today Robredo put up a good fight."

It was the Russian's third title of the year following victories in Miami and Austrian town Poertschach.

  1. Nikolay is really good, not just because of he's my compatriot but for his style to fight and develope his skills. However, sometimes his theory said in interviews seems stronger than practice, but he's on the right way definitely! Good luck Nikolay!!!!

  3. Davydenko, more than any other current sports champion in the world, teaches a lesson in courage. He's had to continue to face unseasoned, mediocre, and top players in match after match with the false brand of cheater stamped on him by small-minded, jealous tennis promoters. He endures to show us all that belief on oneself is the core of life. May he continue to shine as that potent reminder...
