Rangers tabled an undisclosed bid for the Latvia international this week and are awaiting a response from their Championship rivals.

Dowie's players are set to return for pre-season training on June 30, and the Irishman is keen to do all of his transfer dealing before that date.

"He is one we would like to bring here. I really like the look of him as a player and if it happens, then great," Dowie told Rangers' official website.

"Ideally I would like to have the squad in place for the first day of pre-season training. That will enable us to condition them as we want, with our own methods."
