Martin Johnson reflected on a satisfying conclusion to his first year as England manager despite signing off with defeat in Argentina.
The Pumas levelled the series by winning 24-22 at the Estadio Padre Ernesto Martearena, inflicting a sixth loss in 11 Tests on England since Johnson officially took over last July.
"You always hope to be further than you are but we have made significant strides as a team. I really do believe that," Johnson said.
"We've come a heck of a long way. We're in a results business and we've lost more than we won this season.
"We understand what we're trying to do on the field and it's certainly far better than in the autumn.
"It got better through the Six Nations and that was clear in our performances and results, the French game in particular.
"But generally we're improving, as is the confidence of the players and the belief they have in themselves. It was disappointing to lose because it would have been great to finish with a win."

England have come a long way but where have they come to. When would you ever expect to here an English manager say they were happy with a 44% win in any season and where have they come from when was the last time England had such a bad win percentage and then to say they are improving with their worst world ranking for years and the lowest win percentage i can remember them having its good to see old Johnson thinks it was a good year
All the way from Argentina in fact
