Rumours of Liverpool's star striker making a shock move to Manchester United have prompted strong reactions among Eurosport-Yahoo! readers.

While the report, made in one Sunday newspapers, is one of the more far-fetched of the summer transfer window so far, plenty of fans have moved to comment on it.

Responses have ranged from Liverpool fans predictably dismissing the claims out of hand, to United fans saying that the Spain striker would not even fit in at Old Trafford.

Zack: "There is no chance in hell that Liverpool will sell Torres to United. Even if Man United bid £80 million that will still not buy Torres. There is a big diffrence between Torres and Ronaldo."

Vadim P: "Well - I think that would be the real replacement for Ronaldo - I think Torres is waaaaaay better than Ribery, and he is also younger - I would even give £55-60 million for him."

CHANDRA S: "It certainly will be the biggest mistake that MU made. MU plays on a style without relying on being rewarded for tantrums. So far Torres has often relied on being rewarded for tantrums. MU would lose its class. I doubt Fergie will be able to change this cry baby. Keep him out and maintain the class."

realistic: "I agree with the fact he won't come to us, but only because he won't be allowed to. Gerrard is a lifelong liverpool fan and player, Torres is Spanish and he would only feel the same about his home town club, he won't have the same loyalty to Liverpool as Gerrard, so it's not worth comparing them. The one thing nobody has talked about is, Real signing him!! I know he hates them but money talks and they are splashing the cash at the moment."

roy_elias10: "Well I know that SAF had been following Torres since he was a 19-year-old. And even when he decided to leave Atletico, it was likely he was coming to Old Trafford but it wasn't to be. Now what United need is midfielders (A.Young, Ribery, Valencia, De Rossi) and unless they sell Berbatov they shouldn't bid for Torres because Rooney should be played in the Centre and not on the wing, and they have to give Macheda and Wellbeck their chances."

    Torres­ is a liverpool fan outside his beloved athletico, the­ same happened with the great Robbie Fowler, he was a­ boyhood Evertonian a true blue as he called himself,­ but it was liverpool that gave him his chance and took­ him on when he was a kid, Everton snubbed him and his­ father.. after that.. robbie stayed loyal to the red­ side of mersey, knowing he couldd have gone to everton­ at any point but he never did. Torres is the same .. he­ will always get offers by big clubs and one day in the­ future he might sign for one, if so fair play and good­ luck to him .. but as true as im sitting here .. it­ will never be a club that has the words manchester­ united in its title!!
