William Cook, who became the first official World Billiards champion when he took the title in February 1870, was born. 18 June 1917 - JACK KARNEHM BORN
One of snooker's best television commentators Jack Karnehm was born. Although he played both games, Jack was a better billiards player than a snooker one. He was English Amateur billiards champion in 1969 and went on to win the World Amateur later the same year. He was runner-up to Rex Williams for the World Professional title in 1973. He later became a national coach. At snooker he entered the world championship on three occasions but never won a frame.
