Edu starts out on road to recovery

Mon 15 Jun, 05:12 PM

Maurice Edu is determined to force his way back into Walter Smith's plans next season after declaring his knee surgery a success.

The United States international, 23, can expect to be sidelined for up to three months after going under the knife at the end of the campaign following a knee injury.

Speaking on his own website, www.mauriceedu.com, he said: "Surgery went well and all parties involved were happy with the result."

He added:"Now is the annoying part as I'm on crutches for four to six weeks.

"I'm out for possibly three months but I'll get some time to go home and see my family for a little bit so that's good.

"I'm just staying positive and keeping my head down and I'm anxious to start my rehab. I need to get fit and get my knee healthy and strong.

"From there, I just need to fight hard and earn a spot back in the starting line-up because this season was great."

The spell out of action means he will also have to sit out the Confederations Cup with the United States this week.
