Stockport target Peter Thompson is set to end his Irish League career - but not before a Champions League clash with Dinamo Zagreb. The 24-year-old striker has been targeted this week by County ahead of Linfield's first qualifying round first leg match with the Croatian side at Windsor Park.
Thompson has also been the subject of two bids from Kilmarnock and interest from QPR and Norwich this summer, and with just one year left on his contract the chances are the Belfast club will have to cash in soon.
Earlier this week Linfield chairman Jim Kerr confirmed Stockport's interest, saying: "Stockport's manager Jim Gannon, their chief executive and scout came over to see us. Figures were mentioned but as of yet no offer has been tabled.
"They expressed an interest but we are waiting to see any offer in writing before taking the matter further.
"Once an offer is made then it will be put to the Linfield board and they will decide on whether to accept it or not."
