Southampton boss Jan Poortvliet is ready to put his faith in the club's youngsters next month when the Championship season begins. The Dutchman has been hugely impressed by the likes of David McGoldrick, Adam Lallana, Simon Gillett and Lloyd James during pre-season.
Striker McGoldrick caught the eye with a hat-trick in the recent friendly against Basingstoke and Poortvliet feels he has a genuine talent on his hands.
"David McGoldrick has been great," he said.
"He's been training hard, he's in the mood and he's a big player. He's also physically strong and he can smell chances, he can finish, he can dribble, he can pass. He has a little bit of everything.
"He and Adam Lallana know what the other one is doing and so do Gillett and Lloyd James. They make it look easy and it is good to watch"
