Southend United defender Simon Francis is not overly concerned by the Shrimpers' low-key start to their pre-season campaign.United have so far drawn with Canvey Island and beaten Thurrock and Great Wakering Rovers 4-0 and 2-0 respectively.

Next up for Steve Tilson's men is a home clash with Fulham at Roots Hall on Tuesday night, and Francis insists you can read nothing into form at this stage of the year.

"People may be worrying that we drew with Canvey and only beat Wakering 2-0 but they shouldn't," Francis told the Southend Echo.

"We've tried new formations and new players, some of whom haven't spoken a word of English but that's what happens at this time of year.

"I think we are doing well and I'm really enjoying pre-season."
