Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker has issued manager Keith Downing with a warning over the lack of new signings at Whaddon Road. The Robins recently sold last season's top scorer Steven Gillespie to Colchester for £400,000 and Baker has urged Downing to spend the money on quality replacements.
He told the Gloucestershire Echo: "The board of directors and all supporters will be immensely disappointed if we do not bring in three or four new faces, including at least two strikers.
"This is Keith's biggest challenge between now and the start of the season, and I'm sure he's working hard at it.
"We've sold our best player for a substantial amount of money - now it's critically important that we replace him."
Baker added: "I'm sure he is doing all he can, talking to managers and agents. There's no point in panicking yet, but we all would rather see new faces as soon as possible so they have as much chance as they can to bed into the squad."
