AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani doubts Ronaldinho will join Manchester City despite their £25.5million bid for the Brazilian.
Milan have offered less than half that figure for the Barcelona forward - and wages of £100,000 less a week - but Ronaldinho is still expected to demand a move to Italy rather than Manchester.
"If Barca does not see our offer to be adequate? We leave for Milan, but I doubt that Ronaldinho will go to play at (Manchester) City," said Galliani.
Ronaldinho had a meeting with Barca boss Pep Guardiola on Monday and apparently told him that he would be gone by Friday.
Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said: "The important thing is to have champions and Ronaldinho without a doubt is one of them."
The arrival of Ronaldinho would be a big boost for the Serie A giants, who have failed to make a major signing so far this summer.
The Rossoneri are aiming to bounce back from a disappointing campaign which saw them finish fifth in the Serie A standings and fail to qualify for Europe's elite club competition.
Milan will therefore compete in the less glamorous UEFA Cup next season.
Ancelotti admitted: "To be out of the Champions League is a hard blow so we will do everything to return to the competition as soon as possible.
"Quality is our trademark and it will continue to be whether Ronaldinho arrives or not.
"Our aim is as usual to win while providing a good show. This is Milan."

Ronaldinho is too big for Manchester City. Beside, I don't think Manchester City would want to invest a huge sum of money for a single "star player" without other equally good players to help him deliver the much needed goals. Ronaldinho is a team player and he is no Maradona who can win a competition all by himself. Anang Joe. The Netherlands.
vulcan doesn't know what he is talking about. milan will be back in the the CL within a year and even stronger than before and they will win it again then. man city is gonna stay where they are for a while.
Really, vulcan... Milan. and Man City. are on par with eachother. Please tell me you are kidding
first of all at milan he will have world class players that have won everything and that have the best skill, which will be nice for him to have someone to play with, not just the history. and don't compare the two leagues. in england two teams play attractive soccer, manu and arsenal, that is it. the rest is @#$%. all they do is long ball. in milan he has pirlo, kaka, seedorf, pato, flamini, and inzghi who will put in 98% of his chances in. so ronaldinho will be just fine at milan. and for the rest of you that say players have no loyalty, look at the milan side, except for shva's @#$% @#$% who's wife is a whore and got him to leave no one else has complained about money or anything else. and even he wants to leave bc english soccer is @#$%
The only advantage Milan have is history. Apart from that they are on par with City, both in the UEFA cup. Only difference is that City have a load of cash and a promising team playing in the best league in the world while Milan have an aging squad and play in a disgraced league non for boring football.
No doubts then Milan? so why have you not signed him then? All offers on the table, you are not in the CL just as Man City are not....The game today is all about how much money the player can get, nothing else. Milan will not pay the asking price, nor the wages that City are offering, and sadly there are no footballers that show loyalty to any club nowadays. Same old story, the players go where they benefit financially, the game is one of prima donnas and huge paydays.... nothing else seems to count...not honour, not loyalty, and certainly not regard for the fans..........
