Tony Pulis has confirmed Stoke have spoken to Scott Carson, but reports suggest West Brom are favourites to sign the Liverpool keeper.
The Potters have agreed a club-record fee in the region of £3.5million for Carson, 22, and the England international has now held talks with them.
Pulis told The Sentinel: "Yes, I can confirm we are in talks with Scott Carson."
But reports claim West Brom, who earned promotion alongside Stoke last season, are also in the hunt for the former Leeds man.
The Baggies are also ready to offer a club-record fee for the 'keeper and are rumoured to be hopeful of beating Stoke to Carson's signature.
Carson, who has been linked with Middlesbrough as well, is looking to leave Liverpool for regular first-team football after making just nine appearances since joining from Leeds in January 2005.
He spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, but a permanent move did not materialise following reports the Reds wanted £10million.
