Sampdoria general manager Beppe Marotta believes there is now "zero possibility" of the club signing Andriy Shevchenko.
The Chelsea striker had been linked with a move to Sampdoria at the weekend as he looks for regular first-team football.
Marotta had claimed that the Ukrainian would be "happy" to join Sampdoria, if the issue of his hefty wages could be overcome.
However, Marotta feels Sampdoria have no chance of signing the 31-year-old as Shevchenko would rejoin AC Milan, if he returns to Serie A.
"Sheva has been suggested, but there's zero possibility that he will come to us," Marotta told Corriere dello Sport.
"I just keep thinking of Galliani's (Milan vice-president Adriano) words when he declared that if Shevchenko leaves Chelsea it will only be to wear the red and black shirt."
Hernan Crespo has been linked with a move to Sampdoria from Inter Milan and Marotta admits the club could try to repeat the success of Antonio Cassano's loan deal last season.
Marotta added: "We experimented with the Cassano model, when a top player is taken on loan from a big club.
"If a similar opportunity comes about that fits in with our plans, then we would have to think about it."
