La Liga - Joaquin in talks over Valencia future

Spain international Joaquin's future at Valencia is in the balance, according to the player's agent.

The 26-year-old winger is holding talks with the club this week over whether he will be sold to help balance the books of the beleaguered giants.

Los Che have won La Liga twice in the past decade, but have missed out on a lucrative place in the Champions League for next season after struggling against relegation for much of last term.

With the building of their new 75,000-seater stadium almost completed, the reigning Copa del Rey champions need to bring in extra funds to help pay for its construction, and the Andalucian winger is one of the current squad most likely to be sacrificed.

Joaquin's agent Eduardo Espejo said: "There's a lot going on at the club right now.

"We will be talking with them this week and then the player's future will become more clear."

Joaquin joined Valencia from Real Betis following the 2006 World Cup for around £19 million, but he initially struggled at his new club and has never consistently held down a place in the starting line-up, being used as an impact substitute just as often.

Premier League side Everton had been linked with a move, but are unlikely to meet Valencia's valuation of £16 million.
