Barry Ferguson's Rangers career moved closer to an end when the Ibrox club accepted a bid from Birmingham City on Wednesday.
Ferguson, 31, will discuss terms with the Barclays Premier League club managed by his former Rangers and Scotland manager Alex McLeish.
It was reported that the bid is around £1 million although that was not confirmed.
If terms are agreed, Ferguson will return to the top flight in England four-and-half years after a spell at Blackburn Rovers.
And if the midfielder leaves Rangers, he will follow Brahim Hemdani, Christian Dailly and Graeme Smith out the Ibrox door this summer.
Ferguson's Ibrox career brought plenty of success but it was latterly shrouded in controversy.
He was fined and stripped of the Rangers captaincy last season following a breach of discipline while on Scotland duty in April following a World Cup qualifying defeat by Holland in Amsterdam.
The late night drinking incident at a Loch Lomond Hotel also led to an end to his international career.
Ferguson was dropped by Rangers manager Walter Smith but returned for their last three games of the season as they won back the Clydesdale Bank Premier League from Old Firm rivals Celtic for the first time in four years.
The former Ibrox youth player was also in the Rangers side that lifted the Homecoming Scottish Cup with a 1-0 win over Falkirk at Hampden.

#46 Who said everything in the garden was rosy at our end of the city? The point was that the original poster reckons that sectarianism is thing of the past at Ibrox and should be consigned to the past...he is deluded; and you, doing the projection thing and pointing fingers at someone else as some kind of mitigation, doesn't make it any more acceptable!
hey mark named correctly all you english are muppets sum one always has their hand up your a*se
what with bowyer, bwarry and barton, who brum have been linked with, that will be some racist midfield. Bunch of jumped up wee p-ickkks
you lot are having a laugh... your team has supporters, that sing about murdering people in their bed and support and ing about scum who blow up and shoot innocent people including children , also Celtics last trip to Barcelona was a mini riot with several taxi robberies and fighting with police there and oh a plane was redirected because of bother as well
both sets of supporters have trouble makers and scum that ruin it for the vast majority.
I was in Manchester and there were a lot of English voices causing bother and a lot of the St petersburgh fans were causing trouble as well so dont make out it its all one sided ,.....I hate what happened there but don't be so shortsighted thinking the garden is rosy at your end of the city cause it aint
#42 Sectarianism is the only thing that keeps your club going; when SDM tried to change the siege mentality by employing PLG, the ‘true blues’ walked out in their droves until the regime was restored; the man never stood a chance. Sectarianism is the backbone of your club; it is the fuel that drives it; it will never change in our lifetime.
Hearts - who.
DOUGLAS - Thankfully I have no Jock relatives. No windae lickers in ma family.
