Basso back for TV test against Rams

Fri 15 Aug, 11:30 AM

Adriano Basso has recovered from a thigh injury and is back in the squad for Bristol City's televised clash against Derby at Ashton Gate. However, Robins boss Gary Johnson has hinted that the Brazilian may have to settle for a place on the bench as he keeps faith with Chris Weale.

"I think Adriano is fine, although it would be difficult to leave Wealie out at this moment in time," Johnson said. "It is a comfortable decision for me to make because I don't do anything different with goalkeepers than I do with outfield players.

"Basso knows he is competing for one place at the moment and if one of them is injured then at least we have the best goalkeeper in the league to come in - in fact I think both of them are right up there as the best in the Championship."

Christian Ribeiro will be out for up to 12 months after scans revealed he has suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage. The 18-year-old sustained the injury making his first-team debut against Peterborough in the Carling Cup first round in midweek.

He joins Marvin Elliott (knee), Scott Murray (wrist) and Jordan Walker (leg) on the sidelines.

Kick-off at Ashton Gate is 5.20pm.
