Fri 15 Aug, 11:45 AM

Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor has committed his future to the Villa Park club by agreeing a new long-term contract. The England Under-21 forward has signed a new four-year deal which will keep him in Birmingham until June 2012.

Agbonlahor, 21, has followed the decision of John Carew, who signed until 2011 on Thursday, by putting pen to paper on a new deal.

The highly-rated attacker is approaching 100 appearances for Villa after making his debut for the club in March 2006 against Everton.

He had previously been on loan at Watford and Sheffield Wednesday before marking his bow with a goal in a 4-1 defeat at Goodison Park.

Last season, the 21-year-old broke into Fabio Capello's England squad, although he has yet to make his senior debut.

Agbonlahor scored in Villa's 4-1 UEFA Cup win over Hafnarfjordur on Thursday night and his decision is another boost for the club.

The speedy forward's agent Tim Webb said Agbonlahor had no qualms in signing a new deal with the club.

Webb said in a statement: "Gabby is delighted to commit his future to the club.

"He's proud to play for Villa and is keen to continue his development under Martin O'Neill.

"The club is building on last season's progress and he wants to be a part of it. The opportunity of European football can only help his England chances."
